Karl Munthe-Kaas is the Co-founder and CEO of Kolonial.no, Norway´s largest online grocery store. Kolonial.no was founded in 2013 by a group of ten friends, combining skills in software development with traditional Lean operations. They have used the Lean Startup philosophy extensively, both in the overall startup strategy, as well as in their daily experiments. Kolonial.no was valued at 30m USD in their series A round, after raising only 1m USD in seed money, by proving customer value quickly and efficiently. They began full-scale marketing in August 2015 and reached 1m USD turnover per week just seven months later. Kolonial.no has a fully integrated warehouse and distribution system, resting on proprietary technology and operational processes. This has enabled them to compete profitably with discount supermarkets, while offering the convenience and time-saving of online retail. Karl previously consulted large companies on Lean operations at McKinsey & Company, and developed new online marketplaces for Schibsted Classified Media. He holds an M.Sc. in Economics from London School of Economics.
